Job Introduction

ICT Technical Specialist – Infrastructure

Do you have a passion for ICT Infrastructure technology combined with extensive knowledge of Enterprise ICT Infrastructure?

We are looking for an experienced ICT professional to join our team as an Infrastructure specialist, working with SMBC employees, partners, external organisations, and suppliers to effectively deliver Solihull Council‘s Hybrid Cloud and associated environments/technologies.

As Technical Specialist you will:

  • Offer proactive support, development, and ongoing improvement of the ICT Infrastructure, including on-premise virtual and physical resources within our Data Centre and Cloud.
  • Ensure all Solihull MBC ICT Infrastructure systems optimised, secure, sustainable, and recoverable in the event of any failure or DR/BC event.
  • Manage Solihull’s Active Directory and Entra.
  • Support over 3000 clients.
  • Promote sustainable and cost-effective strategies for all ICT Infrastructure, including M365 services and Microsoft Azure.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of cyber security and compliance, ensuring systems are not compromised by any sort of malware, Identity fraud, or Data Loss.

With an IT degree or professional qualification, or the ability to demonstrate through extended relevant experience the necessary specialist knowledge to undertake the full duties of the post, you will also have:

  • Extensive knowledge of enterprise level virtual/physical servers, and storage platforms.
  • Expertise of Microsoft Active Directory, and Entra.

  • Knowledge of Infrastructure in MS Azure.
  • Great knowledge of working in a structured programme environment, helping lead on design, development and continued improvement of ICT Infrastructure.
  • Excellent communication skills, with significant experience of understanding client requirements and delivering solutions.

In return we can offer the opportunity to be involved at the forefront of technology delivery to our user base at Solihull MBC, helping us continually improve our offering.

Working for Solihull also offers employees:

  • A competitive salary
  • A range of flexible working options including flexi time.
  • Annual leave entitlements with the opportunity to purchase up to 10-days additional leave per year.
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Programme – a 24 hour independent, free and confidential advice and support service.
  • Family and carer friendly policies.
  • Employee benefits including staff discounts and access to the Local Government Pension Scheme.

We recognise that work is what you do and not necessarily where you go. To meet the needs of the service, including disaster recovery response to facilitate emergencies, applicants should live within a reasonable distance of our main Council offices in Solihull.
