About Coffee4Craig
Coffee4Craig is a Manchester-based charity offering evening support to people experiencing homelessness. Our city centre drop-in provides hot meals, showers, healthcare access, and a safe, welcoming space for up to 80 guests each night.
We’re a Real Living Wage employer and proud of our values-led culture—where dignity, respect, and equality are at the heart of everything we do. Everyone on the team earns the same hourly rate, because no role is more important than another.
The Role
We’re looking for a calm, organised Kitchen Coordinator to run our evening meal service. You’ll lead a small team of volunteers to prepare and serve food using a mix of donated and purchased ingredients. Menus are created daily—flexibility, creativity, and practicality are key.
This is a unique environment. While good food matters, successful candidates will prioritise maintaining a 5-star clean, calm, and safe kitchen before trying to impress with culinary flair. Our guests want food that tastes like home, not a restaurant. Cleanliness, organisation, and a peaceful atmosphere are essential—and valued more highly than gourmet presentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and prepare meals for 80+ guests using available ingredients (Vegetarian option expected daily)
- Maintain a 5-star food hygiene standard at all times
- Lead and support kitchen volunteers during service
- Monitor food stocks and manage supplies responsibly
- Ensure safe handling of allergens and meet dietary needs where possible
- Keep daily logs and food safety records up to date
- Support a smooth, welcoming and respectful meal service
Who You Are
Essential:
- Experience in cooking (paid or voluntary)
- Understanding of food hygiene and safety standards (training can be provided)
- Calm under pressure, with strong organisational skills
- Comfortable leading volunteers and working with vulnerable adults
- Passionate about making a practical, compassionate difference
Desirable:
- Experience cooking for large groups (60–100 people)
- Previous work in a community or charitable setting
- Familiarity with Safer Food, Better Business and HACCP principles
What We Offer
- £13.23/hr Real Living Wage (equal pay across all roles)
- A welcoming, supportive team culture
- Purposeful work with real community impact
- Training and development opportunities
- Flexible working pattern (3 on / 3 off)
