GARDENING PROJECT SESSION SUPPORT WORKER
Who we are looking for
We are looking for dedicated, enthusiastic and motivated individuals who share our mission of empowering young adults with lifelong neurological conditions to lead fuller lives.
You will be a strong team player with great communication skills, have the ability to work under pressure, and above all be passionate and committed to the development of the young adults within the project.
You will need to be willing to undergo training and to work under the guidance of the project manager.
You will have an interest in gardening/horticulture and enjoy working outdoors. You will also feel comfortable supporting with the running of our cafe in the park on a rotational basis with other staff, and willing to undergo the necessary Food Hygiene Training associated with this.
Job Purpose
The role involves working in a weekly session (every Monday, 9.30 am – 2.30pm) where the purpose is to enable a group young adults with lifelong neurological conditions including autism, learning disabilities and more, to grow, harvest, cook & serve seasonal produce. In this role you, will support the Session Lead, assisting with the direction of any volunteers if relevant, and supporting the team members in their work, helping to facilitate the smooth and safe running of the session. You will provide excellent support to the young adults using agreed methods under the direction of the Session Lead. Training in supporting our young adults in this setting will be given to the successful candidate. You will demonstrate high standards of safety at all times.
You will need
· An interest in working with young adults with additional support needs including autism.
· An interest in gardening/growing and an understanding of seasonal produce (desirable but not essential).
· Competency in the kitchen/working with food in a hospitality setting (preferable).
· To be educated to FE level or above (preferable)
· Emotional and physical resilience to meet the challenges and demands of the role.
· Experience of working with children and/or adults with additional support needs (desirable).
· To be able to work effectively in a team environment.
