Who we are
Wirral Multicultural Organisation (WMO) is a trusted local charity that’s supported Wirral’s diverse communities since 1986. We’re now expanding our bank of freelance interpreters to help us break down language barriers for residents accessing health, housing, education, and wellbeing services.
This is in-person work – you must live in Wirral or nearby (e.g. Liverpool). We do not offer a lot of remote interpreting unfortunately.
Languages we urgently need:

- Albanian
- Amharic
- Bengali
- British Sign Language (BSL)
- Czech/Slovakian
- Hungarian
- Kurdish (Sorani/Badini/Kurmanji – female interpreters encouraged, but all welcome)
- Malayalam
- Pashto
- Punjabi
- Romanian
- Sinhala
- Tamil
- Tigrinya
- Vietnamese
What you’ll do:
- Provide face-to-face interpretation at appointments
- Help service users understand and engage with services
- Be respectful, culturally aware, and professional
- Work as needed – flexible and ad-hoc, based on demand
✅ You’ll need to:
- Be fluent in English and at least one of the listed languages
- Live in or near the Wirral – Unfortunately, this is non-negotiable!!
- Be reliable, professional, and discreet
- Be eligible to work in the UK
- Ideally have experience or a qualification in interpreting (Optional)
- Have 2 professional References in the UK
- have or be ready to apply for a self employment Tax Number
- Have an EDBS in interpreting or be willing to obtain one.
Don’t have a qualification yet? No problem.
We’re happy to support the right candidates to access a Level 2 Community Interpreting qualification, either through:
- Our internal training (available to selected candidates), or
- External courses that cost very little which you would pay for — we’ll guide you through it
