Job description
At Edinburgh Napier University, we believe that higher education should be accessible, empowering, and inclusive for all students. Our Student Wellbeing and Inclusion team plays a vital role in supporting our diverse community—and we’re now looking for a compassionate, proactive, and student-focused Disability Inclusion and Student Engagement Adviser to join our team.
If you are passionate about inclusion and want to help students thrive—academically, personally, and professionally, then this role offers the opportunity to make a genuine, lasting impact.
The Role:
This is a highly rewarding role that combines direct student support with wider engagement outreach, and student service developments such as Schools and student services. You will have the opportunity to work with students who have disabilities, long-term health conditions, mental health challenges, or specific learning differences (e.g. dyslexia, ADHD), ensuring they can access and succeed in every part of university life.
In this visible, student-focused role, your time will be split between one-to-one advisory work, shaping learning profiles and support plans, and working strategically across the university to promote accessibility, inclusive practice, and awareness. You'll also have the chance to collaborate with academic staff, student services, and external partners to reduce barriers and improve the student experience.
What you’ll do:
- Provide expert advice and guidance to students on disability-related support
- Create and manage learning profiles and reasonable adjustment recommendations
- Support students applying for Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA) and accessing assistive technologies
- Advise staff on inclusive teaching and assessment practices
- Deliver workshops, campaigns, and outreach initiatives to raise awareness of disability and inclusion
- Support open days, induction events, and student engagement campaigns
- Collaborate with Schools, student societies, and external organisations to foster a culture of inclusion
- Contribute to university-wide strategies including widening participation and student retention
- Maintain accurate records and support reporting to help enhance the service
What we’ll need from you:
We’re looking for someone who combines expertise with empathy. You’ll need a strong understanding of the Equality Act 2010, experience supporting people with a range of access needs, and excellent interpersonal and organisational skills. Whether you’ve worked in education, the public sector, or a support setting, what matters most is your ability to connect, advocate, and deliver.
You will also need:
- A degree or equivalent relevant experience related to the role
- Knowledge of accessibility best practices in Higher Education
- Experience in student engagement or outreach activity
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across services
- Confidence using digital tools and managing data responsibly
- A positive, flexible, and solutions-focused mindset
- PVG Membership (or willingness to apply)
Experience with assistive technology, Universal Design for Learning, or organising campaigns and training sessions is desirable—but not essential.
