LOOKING FOR DEPUTY PLAYGROUP LEADER
MONDAY- FRIDAY 8.45am- 1PM
*APPLICANTS MUST BE QUALIFIED TO OR AGREE TO START/ BE WROKING TOWARDS NVQ LEVEL 5 (EARLY YEARS CARE AND EDUCATION) OR EQUIVALENT.
The overall policies and procedures of the group will be laid down by the Management Committee, to whom the Playgroup Leader is responsible. The Deputy Leader is firstly responsible to the Leader and secondly to the Management Committee.
The Deputy Leader should support the Leader in providing a stimulating and varied programme of play and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the children.
To achieve this, the Deputy Leader will: -
- Help the leader to ensure the overall safety and wellbeing of the children and implement the standards indicated by Early Years.
- Take part in regular staff and planning meetings in order that staff will be fully aware of their roles and the progression of the play curriculum throughout the year.
- Help the leader to set out the hall as a playroom before the session commences and tidy up (and clear away if appropriate) once the session ends. The Deputy Leader is also responsible for ensuring in conjunction with the leader that good standards of hygiene are followed, and that equipment is safe and regularly checked for repair.
- Carry out systemic observations and assess each individual child’s needs within the group and plan daily to meet these needs. The Deputy Leader will listen to, encourage, stimulate and enable all children as appropriate.
- Assist the Leader in keeping up to date records as stipulated by Social Services and the Management Committee (i.e. waiting lists, daily register, accident book, observations and children’s progress)
- Assist the Leader in issuing receipts to parents/carers for fees due and making lodgements at least on a weekly basis.
- Plan and prepare in conjunction with the Leader to ensure that the activities offered throughout the session allow the children to experience the full breadth of the curriculum as laid down in ‘Curricular Guidance for Pre-School Education’
- Take part in and help with the organisation of special events, outings, visits and fundraising activities.
- Advise the Leader of any matter requiring attention e.g. concerns about a child, state of equipment etc.
- Implement the policies and procedures of the Playgroup.
- Deputise for the Leader as and when required.
- Keep strictly confidential any personal information regarding the children, their families or other staff which he/she learns as part of his/her job. Such information should only be passed on in the interests of the child. The Deputy Leader will then approach the Leader with this information. Only if the Deputy feels that the Leader is not taking adequate action should the Deputy Leader take the matter further e.g. to the Chairperson of the Management Committee and/or Early Years advisor.
- Be available to attend relevant training courses (at discretion of Management Committee)
- Attend to any other duties relevant to the post.

Pay: £13.00 per hour
