Due to retirements within the team we have the exciting opportunity for a substantive fulltime (10 PA) consultant post, within the obstetric and gynaecology services at Gloucestershire Hospitals Trusts.

Any candidate who is unable, for personal reasons, to work full time will still be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content can be discussed on a personal basis. Job share applicants are also welcome.

The post-holder will help provide specialist obstetric & gynaecology services, including cancer exclusion clinics. They will provide on call support overnight, and on weekends, together with appropriate teaching and supervision of junior doctors and medical students. You will be expected to work closely with general practitioners, gynaecology and oncology staff to provide a seamless service and deliver high quality surgical outcomes within national targets.

Integral to the responsibilities of this post are the following objectives:

To ensure the delivery of a high-quality patient-centred clinical service
To provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in that same task
To sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate
To work in accordance with our trust’s procedures and operating policies
To support the business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Women and Children Division and our Trust

Essential qualifications:
Full GMC registration

MBBS or equivalent

MRCOG

Entry on Specialist Register (or entry expected within 6 months)

ATSM in advanced labour ward practice

ATSM in benign gynaecological surgery

Desirable qualifications:
Additional degrees, diplomas or postgraduate thesis relevant to specialty

Essential clinical experience:
Clinical training and experience in general gynaecology equivalent to that required for a UK CCT

Recent experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent).

Experience and accreditation in gynaecological surgery, including minimal access surgery

Demonstrate ability to work as a member of multidisciplinary team

Ability to lead emergency gynaecology services in and out of hours

Desirable clinical experience:
Experience at consultant level

Motivation and attitude:
Ability to lead a team and form effective working relationships.

Enthusiasm for teaching and training of the multidisciplinary team.

Ability to provide a role model and to inspire and develop junior medical and nursing staff.

Ability to work independently as well as part of the directorate and to balance individual requirements against those of the directorate and the Trust as a whole.

Evidence of self-motivation and ability to organise own CME and CPD needs.

To attend outlying hospitals as required and ability to fulfil travelling requirements associated with the post

Prepared to live within 10 miles or 30 minutes of the base hospital (CGH)

Ability to fulfil all the duties of the post, including on call commitments for emergency gynaecology

Publications in peer-reviewed journals

MD or equivalent

Essential Information Technology:
IT skills: Word processing, excel database, literature searching

Leadership and Management:
Experience in interpreting national guidance and recommendations and translating this into local practice.

Evidence of participation in Audit, Clinical Governance and Quality Improvement project

Quality management

Ability to manage risk

Commitment to CPD / CME

Ability to take part in and respond to appraisal

Essential Teaching:
Ability to teach clinical and operative skills
