Community Engagement Worker - South Asian communities (CVD and Oral Health)

About us

Big Life is in the business of changing lives. We fight inequality by working with people and places to create opportunities and inspire change. Whatever service we deliver to help people to change their lives, we do things the Big Life Way.

What you’ll be doing

As a Community Engagement Worker, you will lead and support health and wellbeing activities across South Asian communities in Rochdale. This role is all about making a real difference, encouraging local people to attend cholesterol and blood pressure checks, raising awareness of oral health, and promoting positive action around cardiovascular health.

Working closely with the Oral Health team and other local partners, you’ll help deliver health sessions in early years settings (including schools), support local events, and ensure services are accessible and inclusive. You’ll gather insights to understand barriers, support volunteers, and follow up with individuals who haven’t accessed GP Health MOTs and help to connect them to the care they need.

You will be based at Lock 50 and across the borough of Rochdale, reporting to the Community Projects lead.

What we need from you

  • You will be passionate about working with local communities and community partners.
  • You will have bilingual skills to reach out to people from South Asian Communities in Rochdale.
  • You will be skilled at promoting and signposting services to individuals.
  • You are confident in building relationships with people and organisations.
  • You will need to be DBS checked.

What we will offer you in return

  • An annual salary of £25,992 (NJC 8)
  • A fixed-term, full-time contract (35 hours) until 31 March 2026.
  • 25 days (rising to 30 days after 5 years)
  • A relaxed culture where you are expected to plan your day, take breaks when you need them and enjoy your work.
  • Ongoing personal and professional development through regular supervision
  • A supportive, flexible approach to managing staff health and wellbeing, including a wide range of perks, schemes, and support.
