After the successful delivery of this programme over the last 3 years specifically designed to develop trainees ability to progress into training programmes, we are looking to appoint the next cohort of full time Clinical Fellows (CFs) to start in August 2025 on an initial 12-month contract.
Applicants are expected to have a major interest in a career in General Surgery. MRCS or equivalent is not essential but desirable and basic clinical surgical skills (FY2 or equivalent) should be demonstrated. We would expect the successful applicant to be able to perform at the level expected of a Day 1 Core Surgical Trainee.
Candidates must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and be eligible to work in the UK.

The post potentially offers wide experience and training in all aspects of General Surgery . The post holder will work with a team of 12 experienced Consultant Surgeons supported by a team of 10 registrars, 3 SHOs and 7 FY1s. Depending on the applicant's area of interest there may be opportunity to gain specialist training in emergency surgery, colorectal or upper GI surgery.
The duties of the post include :
Out-patient clinics – managing new and follow up patients independently, under supervision and teaching as required
Operating – independently, under supervision, assisting and training as appropriate .
Attendance at and participation in MDT meetings
Daily ward rounds
Supervision of junior surgical staff.
Active participation in clinical audit, governance and research.
Teaching of medical students and surgical trainees
Pre and post operative care of admissions
Participation in middle grade on call rota (currently working a 1 in 10 rota but subject to change).
