We are looking for a patient, caring and reliable Classroom Support Assistant to join a welcoming mainstream primary school in Carlisle.
This is a rewarding role for someone who enjoys helping children feel safe, supported and ready to learn. The ideal candidate will be flexible, nurturing and confident working with pupils who may have additional needs. SEN experience is preferred but not essential—what matters most is your ability to build trust, follow direction and stay calm under pressure.
The role
You will support pupils across the school day—helping them stay engaged, regulating emotions, and providing reassurance when needed. Responsibilities include:
- Supporting pupils 1:1 or in small groups
- Encouraging participation and helping pupils follow routines
- Assisting the class teacher with lesson delivery and classroom activities
- Using a consistent and calm approach to behaviour and emotional support
- Working closely with staff to follow individual learning plans
The ideal person
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience working with children (including those with SEN)
- Is kind, resilient and ready to support pupils through both challenges and achievements
- Understands the importance of structure, patience and praise
- Can take direction and use their initiative
- Is passionate about helping every child feel included and valued

Hours
Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 3:30pm (term time only).

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
