Post: Carers Wellbeing Officer (North West Leicestershire)
Base: Hybrid Working across North West Leicestershire
Salary: £23,500 pro rata (based on a 37-hour working week)
Hours: 16 hours per week - expected working days to be Wednesday - Friday
Duration: The post is funded until 31.10.26 with possibility of extension.
Voluntary Action South Leicestershire is a local charity based in Market Harborough. We are looking for someone to join our Support for Carers team who is passionate about carers. We describe a carer as someone who looks after a family member, friend or neighbour, that could not manage without their support. Caring can be isolating, emotionally draining, financially debilitating and impact on their own health as well as rewarding.
VASL’s Support for Carers project is Leicestershire wide and provide support through a dedicated telephone helpline (Monday to Friday), running carers support groups, including partnership working with other organisations and directly liaising with health professionals.
We are looking for a Wellbeing Officer to identify and support carers within their role and to deliver all aspects of Support for Carers Leicestershire services. This includes telephone support, completing assessments and leading a monthly Carers Group. You will be working with a welcoming, sociable and hardworking team and will be expected to be enthusiastic and organised with good working knowledge of Excel and databases.
Main Tasks:
- To respond to all carer’s referrals (self-referrals, Health/ASC VCSE and those from other agencies)
- Provide compassionate and supportive advice to carers who are often struggling with their own wellbeing alongside their caring role.
- To maintain the accurate and up to date records on our carers database.
- Devise and deliver carer support groups and awareness educational sessions.
- To encourage carers to become involved in local forums and carer support groups so that they receive the long-term support they need to maintain their carer’s role
- To organise promotional events within the community to promote Support for Carers Leicestershire attend events organised by outside agencies where appropriate.
- To be responsible for monitoring and evaluating the service for statistical and quarterly reports
- To act as a resource and a contact point to other professionals working in the health and social care fields including other organisations who may require information and advice relating to carer’s issues
Person Specification
Essential:
A good standard of education.
To be able to demonstrate effective communication skills with both clients and other professionals.
Experience within health, social services or voluntary sector
Clear, concise verbal and written reporting.
Good organisational, time management skills.
IT skills including using WP, databases; desktop publishing, etc
Ability to work as part of a staff team and on own initiative.
Understanding of and commitment to equal opportunities issues.
Awareness of and commitment to confidentiality.
Desirable:
Experience of working with carers, professionally or personally.
Experience of organising or facilitating meetings/events.
Awareness of the needs of social media and website marketing.
Awareness of support and groups across Leicestershire.
Additional Requirements
- To play a full part in shaping the future of VASL through taking an active and contributory part in staff meetings/workshops/strategy discussions

- To comply with safe working practices in accordance with VASL’s Health and Safety policy and current Health and Safety legislation.
- The post holder should have regular access to a vehicle. You will be primarily based at home with the expectation to attend VASL offices in Market Harborough. There will be a significant amount of travel and outreach work across the Leicestershire District is required that the vehicle has a suitable level of insurance cover (i.e. business cover).
- To attend any relevant training courses as may be required.
- To respect all aspects of confidentiality and work to the VASL’s current confidentiality policy.
- To carry out tasks as directed by the Charity Manager
