The purpose of this role is to contribute to the work of the Careers and Employability Team. The team support the development of skills for employment amongst the student body and provide a professional and impartial service that aims to help individuals to make informed and considered decisions about their education, training and employment options. The service aims to promote the value of learning and empower individuals to reach their targets, be aware of labour market information and aspire to new challenges. The team work with a range of external agencies and employers to provide students with ‘real world’ experience of options following college.
The ideal candidate will be suitably qualified to provide in-depth careers and employability related information, advice, and guidance to students, prospective students and community clients.
It is essential that the person appointed has the ability to build positive relationships, and effectively utilise excellent communication & organisational skills, particularly with employers both large and small to deliver a programme of high-quality experience of work in line with the Government’s Careers Strategy.
A key part of this role will be to engage new employers to secure new work placements for students working towards achieving the college’s work placement target.
You will research and secure work placement opportunities for students studying on a range of programmes including existing opportunities, negotiating new placements, ensuring all risk assessments are complete and offering advice and guidance to both employers and students to ensure maximum benefit to both.
The post holder will be expected to be a self-starter and have a high level of resilience, as the role will involve engaging new employers to work placements.
The standard hours of work are between 8.30am to 5pm but candidates must be flexible to work outside of these hours to cover events such as open evenings, early morning or evening careers appointments and external events when required to do so.
