Directorate - Children and Young People Services

Permanent, Full time, 37 hours per week

Are you ambitious, creative and passionate about reducing the number of children entering the criminal justice system, and reducing reoffending?

Can you uphold the principles of ‘child first’ whilst balancing the need to manage risk and protect the public?

Do you have direct experience of working with, and affecting change in, vulnerable and complex young people and their families?

Rotherham Youth Justice Service (YJS) is seeking an experienced practitioner who will manage both high risk and complex cases on Statutory orders and Out of Court Disposals. You will have excellent assessment and communication skills, an understanding of the desistance factors for and against offending by children and young people and the passion, commitment and creativity to support change. You will be able to produce reports and maintain excellent case records as well as be able to use a range of databases and case management systems. As part of the role you will be required to attend Court or Custodial settings as a representative of Rotherham YJS and be available to take part in weekend duty visits and calls on a rota basis. Occasional out of hours working is a requirement of the role.

If you think this is you…… please apply online.

You will have and be able to demonstrate:

Experience of working with young people and their families who present with a range of complex needs (mental health challenges, drug and alcohol misuse, offending behaviour, child exploitation etc.)

Experience of enhanced case management including assessments, planning, intervention and reviews with young people and families with complex needs.

Ability to work within timescales, meet deadlines and work to YJB national standards.

Experience of working directly with children and adults in a multi-agency setting and knowledge of the roles of other agencies and professionals.

Able to challenge, negotiate, advocate and collaborate with a range of partners in order to support young people.

Commitment to being an active part of Rotherham Youth Justice Service’s ongoing improvement journey.

For an informal discussion, please email grp.rotherham-yot@rotherham.gov.uk leaving your contact details, and a manager or senior practitioner will contact you.

Closing date: 17th August 2025
Shortlisting: Week commencing 18th August 2025
Interviews: Week commencing 25th August 2025

This post involves working with children and therefore if successful you will be required to apply for a disclosure of criminal records check at an enhanced level. Further information about the Disclosure Scheme can be found at www.gov.uk/disclosure-barring-service-check
