We have an exciting opportunity for a Video Producer to help fill the increasing demand for event recordings, video interviews, explainers, sponsorship and vox pop videos that appear on the Chatham House website, newsletter, YouTube and other social media platforms.

You will film, edit, and commission videos to engage our various digital audiences and produce compelling video and multimedia content. This often involves interviews with Chatham House experts illustrating the themes discussed with supporting b-roll footage, locator maps and explanatory graphics.

This role will work closely with the News and Comment, Audio Visual and Events teams, as well as collaboratively with colleagues elsewhere in Chatham House, and with external partners such as sponsors of speaking events and conferences.


The role will be hybrid with a consistent expectation of a minimum of 2 days in the office per week. Due to the nature of the role’s involvement in breaking news, they will occasionally be required to work outside core hours ie. evenings and at weekends.

Key responsibilities

This role reports to the Head of News and Comment, working closely with the Social Media manager, other Communications colleagues, the Audio Visual team, Events team, researchers, and other teams at Chatham House.

Delivery

The work will involve:

  • Creating and managing the production of original video, audio and other multimedia from Chatham House events.
  • Working alongside Chatham House’s Audio Visual team on event livestreams.
  • Filming and editing interviews with Chatham House experts, and filming or sourcing b-roll and other supporting content to make those interviews compelling.
  • Identifying and prioritising the topics covered by Chatham House that are best suited to video.
  • Working collaboratively to plan content around trending topics and news events in a timely manner.
  • Digesting information from Chatham House text reports, speeches and discussion panels about international affairs in order to showcase Chatham House expertise in video.
  • Engaging with Chatham House analysts in advance and during interviews to ensure the production of compelling videos. This will involve finding creative ways to adapt text research material to a format that works in video.
  • Taking the lead in producing a filming schedule, sharing it with Chatham House colleagues and keeping them updated as breaking news and scheduling conflicts necessitate changes.
  • Being involved in creating and developing maps and graphics that are tailored to video.
  • Ensuring all material aligns with Chatham House editorial and brand guidelines, copyright, and legal requirements.
  • Shooting and editing original video content to support projects using budgets appropriately, both in the UK and potentially overseas.
  • Being adaptable and creative in devising material for different video formats, including breaking news clips, interviews, vox pops, evergreen video explainers, curtain-raiser videos, highlights and summaries of Chatham House conferences and other keynote events in the calendar.
  • Ensure all multimedia is produced to agreed budgets and schedules.

People

  • Creating working relationships with colleagues, guests, sponsors and new contributors and build on existing ones.
  • Ensuring multimedia production is managed smoothly with internal and external partners.
  • Supporting others across the Institute in learning basic video production and provide training as appropriate.
  • Manage external freelancers and agencies and run multimedia schedules of work for the Institute as required.

Strategy

  • To increase the quality and quantity of our video output in order to promote awareness of the Chatham House name and brand.
  • To play an active role in driving increased engagement with visual and audio and hybrid text-and-video content across our website and social media platforms.
  • Contribute to the delivery of the Chatham House EDI strategy.

Person Specification

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Ability to shoot and edit video autonomously. You will be using both smartphones and advanced video cameras, as the occasion demands.
  • Demonstrable experience of industry-standard editing tools for video and audio (such as Adobe Premiere Pro) and post-production work and graphics packages such as Adobe Photoshop and After Effects.
  • Experience in commissioning, filming and editing video material for digital channels.
  • Experience of creating graphics and other forms of multimedia content.
  • Experience delivering at pace, working under pressure, and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Basic budget administration and managing invoices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) and ability to build positive relationships.
  • Ability to think creatively in producing video and multimedia content to meet strategic objectives.
  • Understanding of legal requirements around video production and usage, including copyright and defamation.
  • Knowledge of visual content on social media channels and what video formats work best across different channels.
  • Experience of working in, or an interest in, international affairs.
  • Awareness of the political landscape and media cycle and how this could affect development of digital content.

Salary: £37,000 per year.


Contract:
Full-time, Permanent.

Location: St James's Square, London. This is a hybrid role based in our London office. The successful candidate will be expected to work onsite at least 2 days per week. Due to the nature of the role’s involvement in breaking news, they will occasionally be required to work outside core hours ie. evenings and at weekends.
