Traumatic Brain Injury Support Worker

About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate, skilled, and self-motivated Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Support Worker to provide personalised support to clients recovering from brain injuries. This self-employed role involves working directly with individuals to address a wide range of post-injury challenges, including difficulties with executive functioning, emotional dysregulation, behavioural difficulties, and reduced insight into social cues. The successful candidate will use their expertise to empower clients, enhance their quality of life, and promote independence while managing their own schedule and administrative responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Client Support: Provide one-on-one support to clients with traumatic brain injuries, addressing challenges such as:
• Executive function deficits (e.g., planning, decision-making, and organisation).
• Emotional dysregulation (e.g., mood swings, frustration, or anxiety).
• Personality/behavioural changes (e.g., impulsivity, frustration, loss of identity)
• Difficulty interpreting social cues and maintaining relationships.
• Observation & Assessment: Utilise keen observational skills to monitor client progress, identify emerging needs, and adapt support strategies accordingly.
• Interpersonal Engagement: Build trust and rapport with clients through empathetic, patient, and effective communication.
• Documentation: Maintain detailed, accurate, and professional written records of client interactions, progress notes, and support plans.
• Time Management: Independently manage your caseload, schedule client appointments, and balance administrative tasks as a self-employed professional.
• Liaison: Communicate effectively with other professionals (e.g., psychologists, occupational therapists, or medical staff) when necessary to ensure a comprehensive package for the client's rehabilitation. You will also be expected to organise and attend supervision/training where appropriate.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential

• High school diploma or equivalent (e.g., GCSEs)
• Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including proficiency in writing detailed reports and notes.
• Keen observational skills to assess subtle changes in client behaviour or needs.
• Self-discipline and organisational skills to manage time, caseload, and administrative duties independently.
• Experience working with individuals with neurological conditions or disabilities.
• Familiarity with self-employment responsibilities (e.g., invoicing, tax management).
• Driver’s license.
• Enhanced DBS

Skills and Qualifications

Desirable

• NVQ/Diploma in Health and Social Care
• Level 2 or 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care
• Background in psychology, mental health, or a related field (e.g., degree, certification, or equivalent professional experience).
• Proven understanding of traumatic brain injury and its psychological, emotional, and behavioural impacts.
• Knowledge of therapeutic techniques or coping strategies relevant to brain injury recovery.
• Update service: DBS

Requirements

• Self-employed status (responsible for own tax, insurance, and registration).
• Access to reliable transportation for client visits (if applicable).
• Willingness to undergo a background check and provide references upon request.
• The successful applicant will be required to complete online training before starting any sessions.

Hourly rate

As a self-employed contractor, you will be an associate of Mind and Mobility and your hourly or session rates are based on market standards. There is scope for pay increases over time. The starting rate is £13 an hour.
