Job Title: Support Secretary

What you’ll be responsible for:
- Dealing with initial response to complaints around the quality and content of their clinical transcription and exercise judgement and initiative to assist in resolving the issues where appropriate locally. As and when required, liaise with Supervisor for further advice and support.
- Having a clear understanding of Cancer Targets, Two Week Waits and 62-day target patients.
- Making sure all referrals and errors are recorded in the appropriate logs.
- Having a clear understanding of current Government and locally agreed targets, ensuring key performance indicators are achieved by working in conjunction with the clinical and management teams, including Cancer Locally agreed pathway targets.
- Ensuring that all clinical correspondence, Histology, Cytology and post-mortem reports are transcribed within the required timescales alerting direct line manager if there are any foreseeable delays.
- Ensuring that the workloads are reviewed on a regular basis and that any urgent transcription is given priority – in conjunction with needs of the service and direct line manager.
- Adapting a flexible attitude to meet the needs of the service, taking into consideration each department’s unique specialty and the subsequent requirements of such specialist services.
- Maintaining office filing systems to ensure easy retrieval of all documentation.
You’ll learn the following whilst working at the trust:
1. An in depth understanding of the roles and responsibilities involved in working within the NHS
2. Knowledge of the systems used, to effectively complete your role to the highest standard at all times
3. A sense of teamwork, gained through working alongside and supporting colleagues from all levels, within the organisation
You’ll have the following skills/experience:
· Excellent communication skills, both verbally and non-verbally when dealing with service users / patients / relatives.
· Able to produce letters, reports etc using digital transcription to RSA II level or be able to demonstrate equivalent skills and experience.
· Understanding of cancer plans, TWW and 62-day targets and how they affect the department of Cellular Pathology.
· NHS experience
· Medical terminology
· NHS system experience
· Audo typing experience - desirable
