Here at Human Appeal we have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Copywriting Officer to join our team based in Cheadle, Greater Manchester. The role will be worked on a hybrid schedule and you will join us on a full-time basis as part of an initial 1-year fixed term contract with a view to progressing into a permanent role. We are seeking a Senior Copywriter who brings not only excellent writing and editing skills but also content strategy expertise. This is not just a writing role, we need someone who can help elevate our content by shaping how information is presented (e.g., suggesting when a graphic or infographic would communicate better than text, optimising structures for different audiences and platforms).
The role requires close collaboration with creative teams (design, video, project managers) and strong judgement around tone, message hierarchy, and storytelling particularly for humanitarian and faith-led audiences.

Key duties and responsibilities of the Senior Copywriting Officer:
- Delivery of high-quality, impactful copy that strengthens brand trust and drives donor engagement.
- Ensure consistency in tone, messaging, and style across all communications.
- Support income generation targets through effective messaging.

What were looking for in our Senior Copywriting Officer:
Education: Degree in a relevant field (e.g., Communications, Journalism, Marketing, English), or equivalent professional experience.
Language: Fluent written and spoken English is essential. Additional languages, e.g. Arabic are desirable.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years professional copywriting experience (ideally in non-profit or purpose-driven environments).
- Strong portfolio of multi-platform content: web, email, reports, campaigns, social, video.
- Experience contributing to content strategy recommending formats and layouts to improve clarity and engagement.
Skills:
- Excellent tone of voice awareness warm, direct, beneficiary-focused style preferred.
- Ability to work alongside designers and project managers to shape integrated creative outputs.
- Ideally has experience writing in or for the charity, NGO, humanitarian, or related sectors (or can demonstrate adaptability).
- Able to manage approvals, tone consistency, and messaging clarity across campaigns.

Experience briefing or mentoring junior writers is a bonus.
Key Competencies:
- Advanced writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Strong audience awareness and ability to tailor tone for different platforms.
- Content structuring skills knowing when text alone isnt enough (e.g., infographics, maps).
- Collaborative mindset comfortable working with project managers, designers, and creative leads.
- Able to work in a fast-paced, multi-stakeholder environment.
- Passionate and knowledgeable about the international development sector
