As Senior Brewer, you will share responsibility and day to day management of our brewing operations with our Head Brewer. Key tasks include but are not limited to:
- Maintaining a safe, clean and efficient working environment
- Maintain up to date records (including but not limited to Breww and Microsoft Excel)
- Ensuring full compliance with H&S, Food Safety, HACCP, Regulatory and SALSA standards
- Manage the full brewing process. This will include selecting raw materials and the process from handling and brewing to fermentation to packaging
- Packaging into cask and keg, preparing beer for Bottling and Canning
- CIP and equipment maintenance, including cask and keg cleaning
- Stock and materials management, including accurate forecasting
- Planning and scheduling of brewing operations
- The development of new beers and seasonal releases
- Regular review of the existing range and identifying opportunities for improvement
- Driving innovation in brewing methods and packaging formats
- Hands-on quality control of all products
- Overseeing preventative and reactive maintenance
- Provide cover as a team as needed, 7 days week including bank holidays (e.g. Christmas) Brewery standard opening Monday to Friday.
- Ensure that the quality of beer leaving Barsham Brewery is excellent at all times.
- Increasing your understanding of the art and science of brewing through study and investigation.
- Represent the brewery at events and festivals and open days off site, at the brewery and on site tap room.
- Flexible and willing to take on varied tasks as part of a small team.
- Demonstrate knowledge, enthusiasm and hospitality to visitors and clients, and at events where you represent the brewery.
This is a key role within the business. You’ll work closely with the Management team to shape and deliver a new strategic vision — with exciting developments ahead, including plans for expansion and site enhancements.
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking a Senior Brewer who is not only technically skilled but also brings energy, creativity and leadership to the role. Ideally, you will have:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in brewing and production
- IBD General Certificate in Brewing, Brewing MSc or equivalent is desired but not essential.
- Strong people and communication skills
- A thorough understanding of brewing records, compliance, and stock control
- Good working knowledge of mechanical/electrical systems and IT
- A personal licence (or willingness to gain one)
- Forklift truck experience and certificate preferred
- Able to work in a hygienic manner.
- Physically fit, being able to lift 40kg containers is an essential part of the role.
- Work in a safe and efficient manner, as per Health and Safety Regulations.
- Motivated and enthusiastic, keen to work closely in a small team.
- Must be eligible to live and work in the UK.
- A UK driving license is required.
- A passion for the product and drive to constantly improve.
- Knowledge of cellar management or beer dispense (bonus!).
