JOB SUMMARY
The Pre-Press relies on knowledge of and experience with Lithographic Printing, Lithographic Plate Making, Proof Creation and Type setting to develop and oversee Customer Artwork and Plate production for our printing presses. This job requires a good understanding of customer artwork and vast experience of how the Printing Presses work and what need to be given in order to produce a high-quality product. Advanced knowledge in Adobe Suite, ECO3 (formally AGFA) Apogee Prepress and the ability to work independently with little supervision is required.
Numbering relies on knowledge of and experience with sequential numbering ranges to develop and oversee the Astrojet Printer. This job requires a critical eye for detail & information, a good understanding of math and high levels of concentration to produce a fully numbered complete batch of documents. Advanced knowledge in Flexmail, Excel, Number Batch creation, Astrojet set-up and the ability to work independently with little supervision is required.
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Pre-Press:
Proofing - Taking customer artwork and logos into templates to mock-up proofs for various customers. This includes experience of using Adobe suite. And a good degree in customer service.
Design - Taking Government requests to create high level security designs in Adobe suite security design software. Effectively liaise with the design team and management when working on a project to ensure information is passed on and correct.
Plate Making - Being able to create a print file, taking it through several necessary stages of creation until we have a plate for the printing press. This includes a full understanding of the Eco3 Apogee software and being able to create impositions. Being able to make alterations to print files and impositions to help fix issues on the press.
Machine Maintenance - Having a good understanding of the plate maker, processor and other machines in the department to spot problems, fix minor issues and speak to the engineers about problems and oversee them whilst on site. Keeping machines clean and schedules up to date.
Housekeeping - Day-to-day duties include emptying bins, keeping the plate room and general studio tidy. Taking empty chemical bottles from the plate room to the warehouse.
Numbering:
Running a sheet fed printer to apply sequential numbers, text and barcodes to documents such as cheques and certificates. This is using a Astrojet Printer, including working with the Flexmail Software and creating numbering programs using SPS 9 software and excel.

- 5 GSCE’s Grade 4 or above including Math’s and English
