While GCSEs in English and Maths, or equivalent qualifications, are not explicitly required for entry, they might be needed for the intermediate apprenticeship level. Functional Skills Level 2 is often accepted as an alternative to GCSEs.

The Urban Driver apprenticeship is a Level 2 program focused on training individuals to transport goods by road in urban environments, adhering to specific quality and time standards. It incorporates functional skills like English and Maths, often delivered alongside the apprenticeship or as a prerequisite. The apprenticeship combines practical on-the-job training with off-the-job learning, preparing apprentices for roles like Customer Delivery Driver or Delivery Drive

Those over 19 can opt out of the functional skills requirement.
