Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Disability Support Worker to provide essential support to children and young people with disabilities. The successful candidate will play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for our children and young people by assisting them with daily activities, promoting independence, and ensuring their needs are met in a respectful and dignified manner. This position requires strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with children, young people, families, and other professionals.
Responsibilities
- Provide personal care and support to individuals with disabilities, including assistance with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, and meal preparation.
- Develop and implement care plans tailored to the individual needs of each client, ensuring their preferences and goals are respected.
- Communicate effectively with clients to understand their needs and preferences, fostering a trusting relationship.
- Support children with disabilities in educational settings or at home, facilitating their engagement in activities that promote learning and development.
- Maintain accurate records of client progress and any changes in their condition or circumstances.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, families, and other support workers to ensure comprehensive care for clients.
- Drive clients to appointments or social activities as required, ensuring their safety during transportation.
- Utilise IT skills for documentation purposes and to communicate effectively within the team.
Requirements
- Previous experience working with children or individuals with disabilities is highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with clients and team members.
- Ability to drive is essential for transporting clients; a valid driving licence is required.
- Familiarity with developing care plans tailored to individual needs is an advantage.
- A compassionate approach combined with patience and understanding when working with individuals facing challenges.
- Basic IT skills for record keeping and communication purposes are necessary.
