Mezz Floors UK Limited is a specialist in designing, manufacturing and installing mezzanine floor systems across the UK. We are a small but ambitious team and are looking for our first Health, Safety & Compliance professional to own our accreditations and health & safety framework. This is a pivotal role, offering significant impact and career growth as our compliance function matures.
Role overview
As the Health, Safety & Compliance Officer (Accreditations), you will be responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining all H&S and accreditation activities to ensure compliance with UK law, standards, and customer/certification requirements. You’ll establish the policies, processes and governance needed to protect our people, customers and operations, and you’ll be the go-to expert for audits and accreditation management.
Key responsibilities
- Own and maintain all accreditations (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 45001, ISO 14001; any sector-specific schemes such as CHAS/SSIP as applicable) and prepare for external audits.
- Develop, implement and continuously improve H&S policies, procedures, risk assessments, method statements (RAMS), COSHH assessments, and training records.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions and trending to prevent recurrence.
- Ensure legal compliance with UK Health and Safety regulations and maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in legislation.
- Drive internal audits and management reviews; coordinate external audits and manage non-conformity.
- Manage training and competency programs, maintain a training matrix, deliver toolbox talks, inductions and refresher courses.
- Oversee contractor management, site inductions, PPE compliance and safe working practices on-site.
- Prepare management reports and KPI dashboards on safety performance and accreditation status.
- Liaise with certification bodies, regulatory authorities and customers as required.
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement in health, safety, and quality across the business.
What we’re looking for (essential)
- A recognised qualification in health and safety (e.g., NEBOSH National/ Diploma, Grad IOSH; working toward CMIOSH or equivalent).
- Experience in an SME environment with responsibility for H&S and at least one accreditation program (ISO 9001/45001/14001 or similar); practical experience with audit cycles and corrective actions.
- Strong knowledge of UK H&S law and ISO frameworks, risk assessment methodologies, incident investigation techniques.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to train, influence and collaborate across all levels of the business.
- Ability to work autonomously, manage multiple tasks, and maintain accurate records.
- Basic IT skills (MS Office, training records systems, basic data analysis).
Desirable
- Internal/lead auditor qualifications (ISO 9001/45001) or equivalent training.
- Experience with supplier/contractor audits and on-site safety management in manufacturing or installation environments.
- Driving license or readiness to travel to site locations as needed.
What we offer
- Competitive salary in the range of £38,000 – £42,000, dependent on experience.
- 20 days' holiday plus bank holidays (pro-rata for part-time), rising with service.
