Beacon Childcare LTD is dedicated to providing safe, nurturing, and high-quality residential care for children and young people. Our focus is on delivering child-centred, therapeutic support that enables every young person to reach their potential.
We currently operate seven Ofsted-registered children’s homes across Staffordshire and the West Midlands, supporting young people with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD), Learning Disabilities, and those requiring SOLO placements. With strong foundations already in place, our vision is to continue growing year on year, while maintaining the highest standards of care, compliance, and staff development.
To support this growth, we are seeking an experienced and passionate Responsible Individual to provide strategic leadership, regulatory oversight, and ensure excellence across our services.
The Role
As the Responsible Individual, you will take overall accountability for the quality of care across our homes. You will work in close partnership with Registered Managers, senior leaders, Ofsted, and local authorities to ensure compliance with the Children’s Homes Regulations and Quality Standards.
This role will also have a strong focus on staff management and development. You will play a key part in HR matters including workforce planning, recruitment, performance management, and disciplinary processes—ensuring our staff are supported, engaged, and delivering outstanding care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and direction across all Beacon Childcare residential services.
- Ensure homes consistently meet legislative, safeguarding, and regulatory requirements.
- Support, mentor, and develop Registered Managers to maintain excellent standards of care.
- Act as the Responsible Individual for Ofsted registration, ensuring full compliance and strong governance.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with Ofsted, local authorities, and key stakeholders.
- Lead on audits, service development, and drive continuous improvement.
- Oversee HR-related responsibilities including staffing, investigations, grievances, and performance management.
- Promote a culture of accountability, reflective practice, and professional growth.
- Contribute to the planning and opening of new homes as part of Beacon Childcare’s expansion.
About You
- Significant senior leadership experience within children’s residential care.
- Must meet Ofsted’s requirements to be approved as a Responsible Individual.
- Strong knowledge of the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards.
- Excellent understanding of safeguarding, child development, and trauma-informed practice.
- Experience overseeing HR processes, including staff development, performance, and disciplinary procedures.
- Confident and skilled in managing complex staffing and regulatory issues.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and organisational abilities.
- Relevant Level 5 qualification in Leadership & Management in Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
- Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel across multiple homes.
- Previous registration with OFSTED required
