Job overview

We are looking for a Clinical lead to provide expert clinical knowledge and prompt bio psychosocial assessment and treatment for Royal Cornwall Hospital patients with mental health or self- harm problems.

You will provide expert clinical knowledge and skills supporting the safe and effective transition from acute hospital to appropriate community services for Royal Cornwall Hospital patients with mental health and self harm problems Provide specialist advice to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients/clients and relatives/carers autonomously and in collaboration with the multidisciplinary teams in both the acute hospital and community services.

You will participate in provision of the 24/7 service with inclusion on the clinical staff health roster – for day shift working however some night shift working may be required to meet service needs.

Main duties of the job

Be visible and approachable as an expert practitioner. Provide clinical, ethical, practical and legal advice to colleagues where appropriate. Act as a resource for colleagues within the Cornwall Partnership Trust and Royal Cornwall Hospital.

To be responsible for and lead on the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the evidence based care required. To be responsible for the setting of quality standards, including the monitoring and reviewing in line with current clinical guidance practice and policy. To be responsible for ensuring that the requirements of the Mental Health Act 1983 and update of November 2008 are observed, adhered to and implemented.

Work closely with the Complex Care Teams at the point a person with dementia is admitted to hospital and requires initial assessment and care. To be responsible for ensuring that referrals to the service are processed and allocated accordingly.

Education

Essential criteria
  • Current professional registration – NMC
  • Professional qualification – RMN
  • Substantial and current experience and skills in acute mental health / risk assessment and care
Desirable criteria
  • Substantial Liaison Psychiatry Nurse experience
  • Experience of working with substance misuse
