Somerset Early Scans are looking for an Assistant to work alongside the sonographer in our clinic in Exeter.
Hours are as follows:
Tuesdays 9.15am to 1.45pm
Saturdays 9.15am to 1.45pm
Occasionally the clinic will be closed if clinical staff are unavailable or on leave.
There is a quarterly meeting on an evening 4 times per year 7.30-9pm either on video call or in person at a function room in North Somerset.
There is a requirement to cover the other assistant shifts during their annual leave or when they are absent at short notice occasionally.
We are a small business so flexibility and adaptability is essential.
Full training can be provided.
Responsibilities:
Arrive prior to clinic start and set up the clinic, this involves:
- Unlocking the room and cupboard
- Wheeling the ultrasound machine out of the cupboard and plugging it in
- Plugging in the card machine
- Loading up the laptop and opening diary and clinic notes applications
- Preparing couch roll and checking all folders / leaflets accessible
- Running weekly stock checks
Assist the Sonographer during her clinic:
- Calling in clients in person or by phone
- Reading out medical records ID numbers for entry into the scan machine
- Act as a chaperone for pregnancy and gynaecology ultrasound scans
- Dim the light when needed
- Direct clients to the toilet
- Preparing folders with relevent information sheets
- Taking card payments
- Actioning messages from the outsourced reception service which come through as emails e.g. by returning a call
- Booking, moving and cancelling appointments
- Completing cleaning of the couch and internal and abdominal probes
- Completing cleaning logs
- Uploading clinical files from a USB drive to a cloud based notes software package correctly
- Sharing files with clients using the software
- Uploading blood results
- Checking and actioning shared e-mail inboxes
Closing the clinic at the end of the day:
- Wiping surfaces and completing a log to record this
- Closing down and putting away equipment
- Locking up
- Handing over any tasks not completed to the next assistant
Other administrative tasks and some paperwork as required for the smooth running of the clinic and as part of CQC requirements.
Work experience
Experience in a healthcare setting and with phlebotomy are preferred but not essential.

Computer skills
Excellent written and spoken English
Attention to detail ensuring data is safeguarded/ uploaded correctly
Basic maths skills to be able to work out payments with a calculator
Other requirements
Subject to satisfactory references and DBS check.
