Idmiston Parish Council in Wiltshire is seeking to appoint an innovative, forward-thinking and highly proactive Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer to drive the Council forward into an exciting new period in its evolution as it moves forwards to meet future challenges and ensuring the very best services and facilities are provided for the residents and visitors of the parish.

The Council is responsible for a range of assets and services across the three villages within the parish boundary, including recreation grounds, play areas, bus shelters, an active cemetery and closed churchyard , an annual Community Event together with a number of service contracts. The Parish Council is also reviewing its Neighbourhood Plan, and will be enjoying the financial benefits of a solar panel farm to be located in the parish. Currently, the Council has a budget of £100,752 and employs two people.

This post will be at the forefront of ensuring that the parish sees not just a continuation of services but a continuous improvement. The postholder needs to embrace change and growth and meet all the aspirations which the elected councillors have for Idmiston. The Council is a forward-thinking organisation which values innovation, community, and growth. Here, you’ll find an environment where your ideas matter, where you’ll be empowered to bring positive change, and where your impact will be felt by the residents.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they have relevant management and strategic experience with a positive track record in a local council role; experience of managing budgets, service achievement and innovation, commitment to public service, be motivated, community-focused, and possess sound communication skills. It is not essential that candidates have experience in local government, but they must be committed to obtain the Certificate in Local Council Administration (CiLCA) within the first year of employment if they do not already hold it.

Idmiston Parish Council is committed to equality of opportunity and actively welcomes applications from all sections of the community.

The recruitment process is managed by the Local Council Consultancy, a third party acting for the Council. For an informal discussion please call Janine Gardner on 07774 575397.

To apply, please send your CV together with a covering letter to janine.gardner@localcouncilconsultancy.co.uk before 30 September 2025 at 23:59. In your covering letter, please state your reason(s) for applying and demonstrate, by using examples, how your knowledge, skills and experience meet each of the essential requirements of the person specification and as many desirable requirements as possible. Please draw on your relevant experiences; including paid employment, voluntary work, family experiences and leisure activities as evidence.

An informal event for all shortlisted candidates will be held in Wilton Parish Memorial Hall, in mid-October 2025. Formal interviews will be held at the end of October, dates to be confirmed.

It is hoped the new Clerk will arrive in post as soon as possible after 1 January 2026 when there will be a three month handover period available with the retiring Clerk.
