This role is within a unit where Surrey Police and Sussex Police work in collaboration, whilst remaining two separate legal entities/employers with different terms and conditions.
Both Surrey Police staff and Sussex Police staff are employed in this unit on their own force terms and conditions.
Successful candidates may be appointed on the terms and conditions of employment of either Surrey Police or Sussex Police, depending on organisational requirements. A discussion will be held with the successful candidate to confirm the details of location, salary, allowances and hours.

The Role & Key Responsibilities
This role is a maternity cover position and will be a secondment for internal candidates and a fixed-term contract for external candidates for approximately 1 year.

It is our mission to identify and protect vulnerable people, prevent and respond to harm and keep people safe.
In this role you will manage the development and implementation of efficient and effective Business Continuity Management within Surrey and Sussex Police. You will have key responsibilities for coordinating Business Continuity plans for both forces and will work closely with divisional and departmental representatives. You will develop and maintain the forces' Business Continuity Policy to allow Surrey and Sussex Police to work effectively during an incident and allow the discharge of the organisation's legal, regulatory and corporate governance accountability and responsibilities.
Key responsibilities include;
- Managing an effective Business Continuity programme across both forces including maintenance of plans and exercising in accordance with statutory requirements.
- Coordinating the completion and review of divisional and departmental BC plans in order to promote an effective response to any BC incident.
- Working closely with divisional and departmental representatives across Surrey and Sussex Police to support BC activities, providing support and advice as necessary.
- Attending Regional Police Force Business Continuity meetings to represent Surrey and Sussex Police.
- Supporting the completion of BC exercises across divisions and departments.
- Maintaining effective records on the status of BC planning activities across Surrey and Sussex Police, any live activations and exercises. Writing reports for Chief Officer boards on this information.
Skills & Experience
Qualifications
- An understanding of Business Continuity and experience of working in this field
- Educated to degree level of equivalent in a related subject
- IT literate in Microsoft programs, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Must be able to travel across Surrey and Sussex, ideally by car.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Knowledge of the Civil Contingencies Act 2004
- Excellent communication skills; ability to communicate confidently with all levels of supervision and command within the Police and with partner agencies.
- Ability to effectively deliver specialist advice to a range of stakeholders.
- Ability to produce concise, comprehensive reports.
- Ability to work unsupervised in a multi-agency environment.
- Proven problem solving skills and analytical skills.
- Ability to review and update a plan.
- Ability to work in and contribute to a small team effectively.
- Ability to work well under pressure.
Additional Requirements
- The post-holder must be able to pass and maintain enhanced Security Clearance (SC) vetting.
- Necessity to travel across a wide geographical area throughout Surrey and Sussex by car.
