Role Overview

The Associate Director, Pricing is responsible for leading the firm’s global pricing function, ensuring that pricing strategies are aligned with business objectives, client expectations, and market dynamics. This role provides strategic oversight of all pricing activity, from complex client negotiations to the development of innovative fee structures and profitability models.
You will lead and develop a high-performing global pricing team, working cross-functionally with senior stakeholders across Finance, Business Development, Legal Operations, and Practice Leadership to deliver pricing solutions that support client retention, growth, and sustainable profitability.

Key Responsibilities

1. Global Strategic Leadership
  • Define and lead the firm’s global pricing strategy in alignment with overall business goals.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and partners on pricing, profitability, and client fee arrangements.
  • Represent the pricing function in firm-wide strategic initiatives and leadership forums.

2. Client Engagement & Negotiation
  • Lead pricing discussions and negotiations with key clients, including general counsel and procurement teams.
  • Develop and implement innovative pricing models, including alternative fee arrangements (AFAs), to meet client needs and enhance competitiveness.

3. Profitability & Performance Management
  • Oversee the analysis of client and matter profitability across regions, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Drive the development and use of pricing tools, dashboards, and reporting frameworks to support data-driven decision-making.

4. Operational Excellence
  • Collaborate with Legal Operations, Finance, and Business Services to improve pricing processes, governance, and service delivery models.
  • Ensure pricing practices are scalable, efficient, and compliant with firm policies and client requirements.

5. Global Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing global pricing team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Promote knowledge sharing, best practices, and professional development across the team and wider finance function.

6. Financial Education & Commercial Awareness
  • Champion financial literacy and pricing awareness across the firm through training, tools, and partner engagement.
  • Support the development of a commercially aware culture that balances client value with firm profitability.

Key Skills & Experience
  • Extensive experience in pricing leadership within a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Proven track record of leading pricing strategy, client negotiations, and profitability initiatives across multiple regions or jurisdictions.
  • Strong leadership and global team management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Advanced financial modelling and analytical capabilities; expert-level Excel proficiency.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Familiarity with pricing tools, profitability dashboards, and legal technology platforms is highly desirable.
