We’re seeking a motivated, flexible and enthusiastic person to join our valued Internal Audit, Risk and Counter Fraud team as an Associate Auditor.
This is a trainee role for a recent graduates so no previous experience of internal audit is necessary. You just need to have an enquiring mind, a curiosity to understand how things work and the desire to make them better. We'll support you to undertake the institute of Internal Auditor’s Certified Internal Auditor qualification.
The team undertakes audits and other assignments to inform an evidence-based opinion over the city council’s governance, risk and control framework. The scope of this includes all council operations, resources, services and responsibilities. This helps teams to continuously improve.
We also support the city council’s risk management processes.
As an Associate Auditor, you’ll initially be assisting and then undertake internal audits yourself.

The salary for the Associate Auditor role is £27,711 to £30,060.
This is a site-based role.

Role Responsibilities- Assist in the delivery of audit assignments under the supervision of either the Audit and Risk Manager or a Principal Auditor.
- As experience develops, discuss audit findings and agree any actions required and the report with all relevant officers, with support from either the Audit and Risk Manager or Principal Auditor
- Become a student member of the IIA and begin studies for the Certified Internal Auditor Qualification.
- Submit Terms of Reference and Draft Reports for management review and address review points identified.
- Maintain effective relationships with the client service being audited.
- Work effectively as a member of the team to deliver all agreed work programmes, delivering solid performance under pressure.
- Degree Educated, 2 A-levels or equivalent, GCSE English Language and Mathematics.
- A willingness to study for and complete the IIA’s Certified Internal Auditor qualification.
- Enthusiastic interest around Internal Audit, Risk and Governance principles and practice.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in writing and verbally.
- Self-motivated, able to use own initiative and work within tight timescales.

Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week. Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
