Assistant Butcher
Description
The Assistant Butcher will be primarily responsible for serving customers at our Butchers counter and will also have the opportunity to help process meat products for use at our Delicatessen and Butchers counters as well as our Mezzanine cafe. The Assistant Butcher will report to the Head Butcher as well as our Product Director.
Duties will include:
- Service of customers at the butchers counter
- Assistance in the preparation of high quality meat products from half and quartered animal carcasses in the traditional nose-to-tail style - making use of the whole animal
- Preparation of high quality meat products including raw products such as joints, steaks, gammon, sausages, burgers, meatballs through to ready products such as Pastrami, hams, salamis, Parizer (Balonga)
- Ensuring butchery staff adhere to quality, hygiene and cleanliness standards
- Development and maintenance of a HACCP plan
- Accurate recording-keeping
- Ensuring the butchery is well-stocked and clean
Working pattern
- Up to 54 hours per week
- Monday to Saturday
- Approximately 5-9 hours per day
- Full-time shifts expected to be 08:00 - 17:00
- Occasional additional hours to cover staff absence
Requirements
- Strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Good personal hygiene and presentation
- Previous experience as a Butcher is essential
- Good understanding of the anatomy of the meats with which you will work
- Level 2 Butcher qualification is preferred
- Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate is required
- Experience in retail or customer service is a bonus
- Ideal candidates will be advocates of wholesome food (avoiding Ultra-Processed Foods)
- Willingness to build expert product knowledge to sell and recommend our products
Salary
Dependant upon age and experience:
- 18-20 year olds: Starting at £10.05 per hour
- 21+ year olds: Starting at £12.25 per hour
