About the Service

The Vale Child Mentoring Project is a targeted, early intervention service offering low-level mental health and wellbeing support to children in Years 4 to 6 across primary schools in the Vale of Glamorgan.

The overarching goals of the project are to increase confidence and self-esteem, promote a shared understanding of emotional and physical wellbeing, and equip children with resilience-building tools and techniques. We also aim to foster social connections and raise awareness of how and when to access further support.

As part of the wider offer, the project also delivers “Bouncing Back,” a two-week early intervention programme for children and young people. This programme focuses on group discussion, practical tools, and coping strategies to help manage day-to-day emotional wellbeing. Additionally, we use “The Decider Skills,” a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy-based approach that teaches children and young people how to recognise and manage their own thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.

About the Role

We’re looking for a compassionate and enthusiastic Young Persons Worker to join our team and support children’s emotional wellbeing. You’ll deliver one-to-one sessions in schools, helping children build confidence, develop coping skills, and understand how to seek support. You’ll also lead weekly group sessions in the community, offering a safe, informal space for children to connect, build friendships, and grow in resilience. Both formats aim to reduce emotional distress and equip children with tools to manage their wellbeing.
