C2C is a Christian charity working across Northamptonshire and Milton Keynes, supporting people at risk of or involved in the criminal justice system. Our mission is to bring hope, restoration and long-term change by addressing root causes of offending and walking alongside individuals through tailored, person-centred support.
Role Purpose
To develop, deliver, and oversee a trauma-informed peer mentoring programme across C2C Social Action’s Women’s Centres in Northampton and Kettering. This role will coordinate the recruitment, training, and supervision of volunteers including those with lived experience of the criminal justice system, trauma, mental health challenges, and/or addiction, empowering them to mentor other women in similar circumstances.
Occupational Requirement: Due to the nature of the role, and in line with Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010, this post is open to female applicants only.
Key Responsibilities
Volunteer Coordination & Recruitment
- Recruit, induct, and support volunteers which include women with lived experience to become peer mentors and to fulfil other roles within the organization.
- Develop clear role descriptions, expectations, and boundaries for all volunteers.
- Ensure diversity in volunteer recruitment, actively engaging individuals from marginalised backgrounds.
Training & Development
- Organise and deliver training programmes for peer mentors, including mentoring skills, trauma-informed practice, and mental health first aid (in partnership with external training providers).
- Create personal development plans for each volunteer, supporting their growth and progression.
- Identify and provide opportunities for skills development and accredited training.
Supervision & Support
- Provide regular one-to-one and group supervision for peer mentors to safeguard their mental health and wellbeing.
- Monitor mentors’ resilience and ensure additional support or adjustments are in place when needed.
- Facilitate reflective practice and ensure mentors feel safe and supported in their roles.
Programme Development
- Design and maintain a structured peer mentoring framework, including policies, procedures, and safeguarding protocols.
- Work collaboratively with wellbeing navigators and coaches to identify suitable women for mentoring roles.
- Develop mechanisms for matching mentors with mentees based on needs and lived experience.
Partnership & Collaboration
- Work with partner agencies to deliver training and provide wraparound support.
- Build strong links with local organisations to enhance opportunities for volunteers and mentees.
Monitoring & Evaluation
- Track participation, training completion, and mentoring activity through accurate record-keeping.
- Measure outcomes using tools such as Outcome Stars and the Short Warwick–Edinburgh Mental Well-being Scale (SWEMWBS).
- Collect and analyse feedback from mentors and mentees to continually improve the programme.
- Contribute to reports and funding applications with data and case studies demonstrating impact.
Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all individual and location-based risk assessments, implementing appropriate risk management strategies at all times
- Adhere to all health and safety policies and procedures, including fire safety regulations in all delivery settings (e.g., custody suites, community hubs)
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of and compliance with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), ensuring secure handling and storage of personal data
- Complete all required compliance training, including safeguarding, health and safety, GDPR, and data security
- Report any breaches of compliance or safety concerns promptly in line with organisational procedures
Person Specification
Essential:
- Experience of coordinating volunteers, preferably within the voluntary/community or health sector.
- Understanding of trauma-informed practice and the needs of women with complex challenges.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and motivate people with lived experience.
- Ability to deliver or coordinate training and provide reflective supervision.
- Organised and proactive, able to work independently and across multiple sites.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable women.
- Understanding of safeguarding and risk management procedures
- Experience of monitoring and evaluation processes, including data collection and reporting
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Commitment to confidentiality, data protection and safe information sharing
- Essential car user to enable access to all sites
Desirable Criteria
- Personal or professional experience of the criminal justice system, mental health services, or addiction recovery.
- Knowledge of local support networks, statutory agencies, and community services in Northamptonshire.
- Familiarity with trauma-informed language and inclusive communication approaches
- Experience of monitoring and evaluating volunteer programmes or similar project.
Condition of Employment
This post is subject to Adult Workforce Regulations. Appointment and continuing employment will be subject to funding, the granting and maintaining of a satisfactory DBS and 2 suitable references. There may be a requirement for Police vetting.
Staff are required to ensure immediate notification to their line manager of any personal involvement in criminal justice services.
