Opportunity Overview
We're looking for an enthusiastic Trainee HGV and Commercial Vehicle Mechanic to join our client’s workshop in Smethwick. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to start or develop their career in commercial vehicle maintenance, with hands-on training from experienced professionals.
Our client operates across two sites with a team of around 18 staff, providing maintenance services to commercial clients. They are seeking a motivated individual eager to learn and grow within the industry.
The Role
As a Trainee Mechanic, you will:
- Work under supervision to learn all aspects of HGV and commercial vehicle maintenance
- Gain hands-on experience in servicing, repairs, and diagnostics
- Develop skills in mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
- Assist with MOT preparations and workshop organisation
- Progress towards working more independently as skills develop
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting with servicing, repairs, and maintenance on HGVs and commercial vehicles
- Learning to diagnose faults and perform basic mechanical and electrical repairs
- Supporting with welding and fabrication tasks (training provided)
- Helping maintain workshop cleanliness and health & safety standards
- Keeping accurate records of work carried out
Requirements
- Basic mechanical knowledge or relevant vocational training (desirable but not essential)
- A keen interest in vehicle maintenance and willingness to learn
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
- Full UK driving licence (Class C not required but may be beneficial in the future)
- No prior HGV experience required – full training provided

Pay: £24,420.00-£26,000.00 per year
