Third in Charge – Full-Time (40 hours)
Location: Ashbourne Day Nurseries at Princes Risborough

We’re looking for a confident and experienced Third in Charge to join our nursery team. This is a key leadership role, supporting the Manager and Deputy with the day-to-day running of the nursery and stepping in when they’re away.
You’ll already have experience working in a nursery at a supervisory level, and you’ll be passionate about creating a safe, nurturing environment for children to learn and grow. You’ll also be someone who can lead a team with positivity and professionalism, helping to guide and support your colleagues in their own practice.
What you’ll be doing
- Supporting the Manager and Deputy to run the nursery smoothly day-to-day
- Taking the lead when they’re not present
- Ensuring the nursery meets all EYFS and safeguarding requirements
- Being a role model for excellent practice across the team
- Building strong relationships with families, children and colleagues
- Helping with occupancy growth, marketing activity and community engagement
- Supporting staff development through observations, one-to-ones and training
- Keeping the nursery clean, safe and well-resourced, and supporting with health and safety
What we’re looking for
- A Level 3 childcare qualification (or above)
- Experience working in a nursery in a senior or supervisory role
- Confident understanding of the EYFS and Ofsted requirements
- Great leadership skills and a calm, supportive approach
- Someone who is reliable, professional and genuinely cares about doing a good job
It’s a bonus if you also have:
- Experience with nursery budgets or managing occupancy
- A degree-level childcare qualification
- Good ICT skills and confidence using nursery systems
You’ll need to be able to provide two satisfactory references (one must be your most recent employer), and be eligible for an enhanced DBS check. There may also be occasional travel to other Ashbourne nurseries if needed.
