As our Lead Developer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and sustaining the technical backbone of our brands. This position is designed for a seasoned developer ready to step into a more strategic and leadership-focused role. You will be responsible for overseeing the development and maintenance of our core platforms, driving technical excellence, and ensuring scalable, cost-effective solutions through modern cloud infrastructure. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you’ll help translate business goals into robust technical deliverables, while mentoring team members and deputising for the Head of Engineering when needed.

We believe we are the faster route to driving, offering a swifter way for learners to drive by fast-tracking theory and practical tests and organising lessons to finish just ahead of a student agreed test date. Our unique business model offers a platform to connect both DVSA-approved ADIs (Approved Driving Instructors) and learners, creating a new way of teaching and learning to drive. We are the biggest intensive driving course agent in the UK.
CAPSIL comprises multiple brands including PassMeFast, ADI Network and Instruct Me. Each brand has its own unique position in the market, designed to support driving instructors and learners alike with compelling propositions.
Role Summary
The Lead Developer will help to manage, maintain and build-upon our technical infrastructure across 3 different brands. You’ll be a vital and core part of the team helping to deliver critical business objectives often to tight deadlines.
This position is ideal for a current lead developer or senior engineer who is looking to develop their career and skills into a more senior role.
Your day-to-day duties would include:
- Oversight, development and maintenance of complex web and desktop applications, including the API powering our systems.
- Assist with the technical delivery of our platforms, ensuring high-quality, maintainable code.
- Ensuring efficient use of AWS infrastructure, including Lambda for event-driven workloads and Serverless for cost-efficient, scalable solutions.
- Collaborating with product owners to define and prioritize technical tasks, balancing feature development with system maintenance and performance improvements.
- Providing time and cost estimates for projects and monitoring project progress to ensure on-time delivery.
- Working closely with the PM and stakeholders in other departments to ensure correct delivery of features and projects.
- Acting as a key technical point of contact in the absence of the Head of Engineering, taking ownership of major technical issues and decisions, and liaising directly with senior management to ensure swift and effective resolution.
- Enabling effective communication and collaboration between in-house teams to ensure cohesive execution of the technology roadmap.
The ideal candidate would be proficient and have experience in/with the following:
- PHP / Laravel
- React / NextJS
- RESTful API Development
- AWS Services (EC2, RDS, S3, SQS, Lambda, API Gateway)
- MySQL / Postgres
- Strong understanding of cloud-based infrastructure and DevOps practices
- CI/CD Pipelines and automations
- Agile Environment (Linear)
- Git (GitHub)
- Server Administration (Linux / Ubuntu)
- Queue based mechanisms (SQS / Laravel Queues)
