You will have an advanced and wide-ranging knowledge of musicology. You will have previous experience teaching musicology at HE level and experience of assessment at HE level.

Your primary duties will include delivering the teaching and assessment of the following undergraduate modules: ‘Global Music Studies’ (Level 1), ‘Aesthetics of Electronic and Computer Music’ (Level 1), ‘The Broadway Musical’ (Levels 2 and 3), ‘Music and War’ (Levels 2 and 3), and ‘Hollywood Musical’ (Levels 2 and 3). You will be keen to pursue opportunities for teaching development, impact, public engagement, and/or interdisciplinary work. You will offer pastoral support to students as a Personal Tutor and be keen on championing and promoting Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion initiatives. You may be assigned administrative duties to support the teaching work of the Department.

We believe in an inclusive working environment for all. We are welcoming, supportive, and caring, and pride ourselves on our positive community. Diversity is vital to our success and fundamental to our values. We are, therefore, particularly keen to receive applications from people who are currently underrepresented as conductors in the music industry, such as those of underrepresented genders (e.g., women, non-binary, trans) and people from Black, Asian or minority ethnic backgrounds.

Shortlisting is anonymous: we cannot see any personal data or the ‘Additional Information’ section in your application until shortlisting is completed. Shortlisting is by criteria-based questions based on the person specification, rather than CV or letter.

As a Teaching Associate you will be expected to:

  • Deliver innovative teaching.
  • Contribute positively and proactively to the Department’s teaching culture.
  • Assess Undergraduate students in music.
  • Take a proactive role in the pastoral support of students, dealing with sensitive issues.
  • Be responsible for administrative duties.
