Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital is looking for a skilled and motivated Surgical Care Practitioner (SCP) to join our dynamic theatre team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a modern, well-equipped environment alongside a supportive multidisciplinary team, delivering exceptional patient care across a range of surgical specialties.

About the Role:

As a Surgical Care Practitioner, you will work alongside consultant surgeons and anaesthetists in a scrub and first assist capacity, providing expert clinical input across a variety of surgical procedures. You’ll play a vital role in improving theatre efficiency and patient outcomes by supporting pre-operative and post-operative care, and contributing to the overall surgical pathway.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Act as First Assistant to the surgeon in the operating theatre
  • Support and contribute to patient assessment, surgical planning, and perioperative care
  • Promote evidence-based practice and clinical excellence
  • Work collaboratively with the wider surgical and nursing team to ensure optimal outcomes
  • Support junior staff development and participate in teaching/training as required
  • To work as an advanced level independent practitioner under the supervision and direction of Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons
  • To work autonomously, using expert advanced clinical skills and competence to assess, diagnose, treat and discharge patients under the care of Consultant orthopaedic surgeons
  • To support, advise and educate the nursing team and wider MDT in respect of orthopaedic patient care
  • The support the delivery of safe, effective, high quality patient care in line with Spire’s purpose of “making a difference to our patients lives through outstanding personalised care”

Who We’re Looking For:

  • Registered with the NMC or HCPC (RN/ODP)
  • Accredited Surgical Care Practitioner qualification (PGDip or MSc level)
  • Proven experience as an SCP in a range of surgical specialities
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and patient-centred care
