- Offer guidance and support in managing challenging behaviours, using appropriate strategies to promote positive behaviour and well-being.
- Create a safe and supportive environment by actively engaging with children and young people, fostering healthy relationships and promoting social skills.
- Assist in planning and supporting educational activities, after-school programs, and recreational outings.
- Support children and young people with appointments, school meetings, and social activities, ensuring they have the appropriate resources and transport when needed.
- Work closely with social workers, healthcare professionals, and other support staff to ensure individual care plans and interventions are followed.
- Maintain accurate records of interactions, behaviour, and progress, and promptly report any concerns or changes in the child’s well-being.
- Administer first aid if necessary, ensuring the safety and security of children at all times.
- Provide respite care when required and assist in the transition of children back to their families or permanent placements.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a care, social work, or childcare setting is preferred.
- A valid driving license is beneficial, especially for transportation and attending appointments.
- First aid certification is essential; additional training in safeguarding and child protection is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trusting relationships with children and their families.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.
- A compassionate, empathetic approach towards working with children and young people in care.
- Relevant qualifications in childcare, social work, or youth work would be beneficial but are not mandatory.
