Job Purpose
To support the smooth and efficient running of the school’s daily operations by providing classroom and pupil support, alongside domestic, cleaning, and basic premises duties.
Support Worker will work under the supervision and direction of teaching staff to assist pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN), ensuring a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
a. Pupil Support (under teacher supervision)
- Assist individual pupils and small groups with learning activities, following teacher instructions.
- Support pupils with personal care needs, mobility, and transitions around the school where required.
- Help pupils remain engaged, focused, and safe during lessons and activities.
- Provide encouragement, reinforcement, and emotional support in line with individual learning plans.
- Assist with preparing learning spaces and resources for lessons.
- Help manage behaviour positively, following school policies.
- Supervise pupils during non-classroom times such as break and lunch, where directed.
b. Domestic & Cleaning Support
- Perform daily tasks such as dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and window cleaning.
- Empty waste bins and ensure safe disposal of refuse.
- Replenish cleaning materials and toiletries.
- Ensure specialist SEN equipment is kept clean and in good order.
- Report any maintenance or safety issues promptly.
D. Evening Closure Duties
- Carry out systematic end-of-day cleaning of classrooms, including disinfecting surfaces, arranging furniture, and cleaning boards.
- Ensure shared learning spaces are tidy and ready for the next day.
- Switch off electrical appliances
- Store cleaning materials appropriately
- Activate alarms and secure the premises
Person Specification
Essential:
- Experience working with children, ideally in a school environment.
- Understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding requirements.
- Basic cleaning and facilities maintenance skills.
- Ability to work flexibly, balancing pupil support and domestic duties.
- Reliable, punctual, and trustworthy.
Desirable:
- Previous experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs.
- Relevant first aid or child care training.
- Knowledge of behaviour management strategies.
