We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Support Worker to join our team. The ideal candidate will provide essential assistance to individuals in need, ensuring their comfort, safety, and well-being. This role involves working closely with clients who may require support due to age, illness, disability, or learning disabilities. The Support Worker will play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for those under their care by offering person-centred, respectful, and proactive support.
Responsibilities
- Assist clients with daily living activities, including personal care, hygiene, and meal preparation.
- Provide support in medication administration as per prescribed guidelines.
- Engage in behaviour management techniques to promote positive and safe interactions.
- Facilitate social, recreational, and educational activities to encourage client participation, with consideration for those with learning disabilities.
- Offer companionship, emotional support, and reassurance to clients, fostering a trusting relationship.
- Perform heavy lifting or physical assistance when necessary to support client mobility or transfers.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of care provided and promptly report any changes in client condition or behaviour.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, including nurses and specialist learning disability practitioners, to ensure comprehensive and appropriate care.
- Implement care plans tailored to individual needs, including dementia care and learning disability support strategies.
- Support clients with learning disabilities in achieving greater independence, community integration, and personal goals.
- Ensure a safe, supportive, and clean environment by adhering to health, safety, and safeguarding protocols.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in home care, senior care, disability care, or childcare is highly desirable.
- Experience working with individuals with learning disabilities is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of first aid practices and the ability to respond effectively in emergencies.
- Understanding of medication administration protocols and procedures.
- Training or experience in behaviour management techniques is an advantage.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting and physically assist clients as required.
- A caring, empathetic, and patient disposition with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Relevant qualifications in health, social care, or learning disabilities would be beneficial but not essential.
- A commitment to ongoing professional development, including specialist training in learning disabilities and person-centred care.
