About the Post

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of students with disabilities? We are looking for a dedicated Study Support Assistant to join our team at the University of Suffolk. This role is crucial in providing study support and practical assistance to students with disabilities, ensuring they have full access to learning and the university environment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Disability and Wellbeing Team and other university colleagues to support students with disabilities.
  • Assist students in accessing student support services and facilitate their independence.
  • Support students in understanding and completing tasks, including reading, writing, transcription, and using assistive technology.
  • Provide practical campus assistance, including guiding, laboratory support, and helping with mobility needs.
  • Offer note-taking support, ensuring notes are neat, legible, and comprehensive.
  • Assist in the preparation for teaching sessions by setting up equipment and reproducing materials.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with DSA regulations.
  • Participate in review meetings and contribute to the assessment of student needs.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety Regulations.
  • Being flexible in a fast-paced environment, adapting to last minute timetable changes where necessary to support the student and business need.

Relevant Knowledge:

  • Understanding of the learning support role in Higher Education.
  • Knowledge of support aids and equipment.
  • Experience with IT and assistive software.
