The Role
As a Steel Detailer, you’ll work closely with our project and production teams at our Hull office to create precise, buildable 3D models and drawing packs using Tekla Structures. You’ll be responsible for producing fully coordinated general arrangement drawings, fabrication drawings, and full fabrication packs that support the entire project lifecycle.
In addition to detailing responsibilities, you will also be expected to nest profiles and prepare cutting data for our CNC plasma cutter, ensuring efficient use of material and accurate outputs for the manufacturing team.
You’ll play a vital role in turning design intent into manufacturing reality.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and develop detailed 3D models in Tekla Structures for structural steel projects
- Produce accurate general arrangement (GA) drawings, fabrication drawings, and full fabrication packs
- Generate nested profiles and cutting data for CNC plasma cutting operations, optimising material use
- Ensure models are fully coordinated with design teams and other trades
- Interpret architectural and structural drawings, specifications, and BIM models
- Identify and resolve issues such as clashes, constructibility problems, or drawing inconsistencies
- Liaise with project managers, engineers, and workshop/fabrication teams
- Manage drawing revisions and document control throughout project lifecycles
- Maintain high standards of quality and accuracy across all deliverables
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in a structural steel detailing role
- Advanced proficiency in Tekla Structures
- Experience or capability in nesting for CNC/plasma cutting (preferred software or workflow familiarity a plus)
- Strong understanding of UK steel fabrication methods, materials, and standards
- Proven ability to produce complete fabrication packs and drawing sets
- Excellent attention to detail and methodical working style
- Good communication and team collaboration skills
- Ability to manage time, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines
Desirable (but not essential):
- Experience working directly with fabrication teams or in a workshop environment
- Familiarity with BIM coordination processes
- Ability to attend site and carry out surveys or take measurements as required
- CSCS card or related certifications
