About the Role
We are seeking a reliable, motivated, and experienced individual to join our team in a hybrid role that combines farm livestock duties with horse and donkey care. The role involves daily animal husbandry, estate maintenance, and equine management, with responsibilities ranging from feeding and cleaning to exercising horses and supporting seasonal events. This is a hands-on, varied position for someone who thrives outdoors, enjoys working with animals, and takes pride in high standards of care and presentation.
Key Responsibilities
Animal & Farm Care
- Feed and water a variety of animals including alpacas, sheep, goats, cattle, rabbits, poultry, and donkeys.
- Clean stables, pens, paddocks, and shelters to maintain hygienic, safe environments.
- Monitor animal health and wellbeing, reporting any signs of illness, injury, or unusual behaviour.
- Assist with basic veterinary treatments (worming, vaccinations, wound care).
- Support with birthing (lambing, calving, foaling) and care of young animals.
- Rotate pastures, move animals safely, and maintain fencing and shelters.
- Carry out daily health checks and maintain accurate digital/physical records of feeding, treatments, and routines.
- Regular animal handling including halter training and walking with alpacas and llamas
- Assist with general farm and estate maintenance (machinery, equipment, fencing, grounds).
Equine & Donkey Care
- Daily feeding, mucking out, poo-picking, and yard duties to a high standard.
- Grooming, bathing, clipping, and presentation of horses and donkeys.
- Exercising horses through riding, groundwork, and carriage driving (training available).
- Preparation and turnout for photoshoots, events, clinics, and guest riding/carriage experiences.
- Liaise with vets, farriers, dentists, and chiropractors as needed.
- Maintain tack, harnesses, and equipment in clean, safe condition.
- Support junior staff development and assist with lesson horses and guided rides.
- Transport animals (lorry, trailer, or 3.5t) for off-site clinics and events (HGV licence an advantage; training support available).
General Responsibilities
- Maintain high levels of animal welfare, empathy, and safety across all species.
- Uphold strict hygiene standards in stables, barns, feed rooms, and outdoor areas.
- Ensure equipment, vehicles, and facilities are kept clean, maintained, and ready for use.
- Work flexibly, especially during the “in-residence season” (June–October), when events may run into evenings or weekends (overtime paid at enhanced rate).
- Liaise with team members, providing effective daily handovers and feedback to management.
- Assist in other departments as required.
Person Specification
- Experience: Previous experience with a range of livestock and equines essential; confidence handling large and small animals.
- Skills: Strong animal husbandry knowledge, equine handling, and basic veterinary skills; farm machinery and estate maintenance experience desirable.
- Attributes: Reliable, proactive, physically fit, and happy to work outdoors in all weather. Eye for detail and pride in presentation.
- Teamwork: Good communicator who can work independently or as part of a close-knit team.
- Qualifications: Full UK driving licence required. Tractor/ATV, trailer, or HGV experience an advantage (training can be supported).

Schedule
- 10 hour shift, 5 days per week including weekends. Rotational basis to allow 1 weekend off in 4.
