Salary: £35,000 (pro-rata)
2-3 days per week
Office Location: Wokingham
We are looking for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to work collaboratively for each young person. As a Speech and Language Therapist, you will be responsible for holding your own speech and language caseload, including undertaking assessments, delivering comprehensive reports and intervention plans as well as developing and evaluating speech and language programs. You will have the opportunity to work with our diagnostics team to provide neurodevelopmental diagnosis.
For over 30 years, we have been committed to providing specialised, high-quality residential care, education and therapy for young males, aged 11-18 with developmental trauma who have displayed sexually harmful behaviour. We work to reduce the risk our young people pose, meet their complex needs and help them to manage their physical and behavioural difficulties, so they can leave their past traumas behind, build healthy relationships and lead responsible and rewarding adult lives.
To be a successful Speech and Language Therapist at SWAAY you will have:
- Speech and Language qualification and RCSLT registration
- Hands-on experience working with individuals with social, emotional and mental health needs
- Previous experience working with young people with ADHD, ASD, FASD, anxiety (highly desirable)
- Advanced observational skills in formal and informal settings to guide SALT and neurodevelopmental assessment
- Interaction between SEMH disorders and speech, language and communication needs
- Ability to interpret and manage complex/highly complex facts regarding caseload
- Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams to develop formulations around complex cases
- ADOS and ADI-R training (desirable)
As a Speech and Language Therapist you will be responsible for:
- Undertaking specialist assessments of a young person’s speech, language and communication skills (via observations, interviews with core staff or diagnostic speech and language sessions)
- Writing comprehensive speech and language assessment reports
- Conducting individual and group interventions with the young people residing at SWAAY and those referred for community-based services
- Providing advice, guidance and training to other SWAAY employees
- Working collaboratively with residential and education staff
