The Role

We’re looking for a Specialist Dietitian to join our dynamic Diabetes Team working across Lanarkshire. This exciting post is based at the Diabetes Centre, University Hospital Hairmyres, where you’ll collaborate within a supportive multidisciplinary team of dietitians, consultant diabetologists, specialist diabetes nurses, and podiatrists.

In this specialist role, you’ll provide expert dietetic advice for people with Type 1 Diabetes, including those using insulin pumps. You’ll confidently deliver education through both 1:1 consultations and group sessions, supporting patients, their families, and carers to manage their condition effectively.

Our department is committed to professional development - offering clinical supervision and providing training to B and C placement students. You’ll also have the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of the Diabetes Specialist Dietitian service, including shaping the Type 1 pathway and Structured Education programmes across Lanarkshire.

What we'll need you to bring

  • Registered Dietitian with valid HCPC Registration
  • Educated to/working towards/operating at Degree Level
  • Post graduate expertise within speciality / area of practice that demonstrates the required breadth of knowledge required to lead safety, effectively and efficiently.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within the speciality / area of practice.
  • Specialist knowledge and experience of relevant conditions, pathology, policies and procedures associated with the speciality/area of practice ensuring that the level of expertise can be utilised to deliver leadership within speciality / area of practice.
  • Leadership skills to enable the day to day management of service delivery.
  • Further education/evidence of Continuous Professional Development in area of speciality including study days/courses/post graduate qualification
  • The post holder will possess excellent team-working/leadership skills and have the ability to motivate others and work using own initiative
  • Excellent listening, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective time management skills
  • Working knowledge of basic information technology

Please note for all vacancies where a driving licence is required this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.


It would be great if you also have

  • Postgraduate training in diabetes
  • Broad clinical experience
  • Experience of dietetics within an acute setting
  • Experience and interest in working in diabetes dietetic care
  • Multi-disciplinary team working experience
  • Experience and facilitation techniques in training other staff using group skills and change management
  • Presentation skills
  • Competent in use of audio-visual equipment
  • Ability to work as an independent clinician

Location and Working Pattern

This role will be based in Diabetes Centre within University Hospital Hairmyres.

The working pattern for this role will be Monday - Friday.
