The Role

To independently perform and report ultrasound examinations and train Radiology Registrars, alleviating Consultant Radiologists time constraints.

To support the Area Lead Sonographer in meeting operational and strategic targets, and improving the quality of patient care within the Radiology Specialty.

What we'll need you to bring

  • Registered Radiographer with valid HCPC Registration
  • Educated to/working towards/operating at Degree Level
  • Post graduate expertise within speciality / area of practice that demonstrates the required breadth of knowledge required to lead safety, effectively and efficiently.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within the speciality / area of practice.
  • Specialist knowledge and experience of relevant conditions, pathology, policies and procedures associated with the speciality/area of practice ensuring that the level of expertise can be utilised to deliver leadership within speciality / area of practice.
  • Management qualification or equivalent gained through experience and continuous professional development
  • Further education/evidence of Continuous Professional Development in area of speciality including study days/courses/post graduate qualification
  • The post holder will possess excellent team-working/leadership skills and have the ability to motivate others and work using own initiative
  • Excellent listening, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective time management skills
  • Working knowledge of basic information technology


Please note for all vacancies where a driving licence is required this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.

It would be great if you also have

  • Radiation Protection Supervisors training
  • Evidence of clinical training and personal motivation
  • Relevant clinical experience at band 6 with highly developed specialist knowledge of Radiographic imaging.
  • Extensive knowledge of clinical ultrasound
  • Familiarity with operational requirements of a band 7 position
  • Evidence of management/leadership training.
  • Training of student radiographers
  • Ability to take responsibility and make decisions
  • Ability to work within a team
  • IT, information and document handling skills
  • Ability to work using own initiative and under time pressures
  • Flexible and versatile with ability to identify care priorities
  • Car driver with a full, valid UK/EU/EEA drivers licence


Contract type

Fixed Term or Secondment for 12 months

Part Time

18.5 hours

Please note this is a part time post and the salary for this position will be pro-rata.

Please note this is a fixed term post for 12 months. Where a post only has temporary funding and an existing member of NHS Lanarkshire staff wishes to apply, this will be treated as a secondment. The employee MUST already have written agreement from their line manager to be released on a secondment before applying for the post.


Location and Working Pattern

This role will be based in Radiology within University Hospital Hairmyres
