The Role
We are looking for a skilled and experienced joiner who still enjoys working on the tools but is able to supervise and take charge of day to day workshop operations. This is a unique role leading a team of joiners manufacturing and building bespoke stage sets, props and brand activations.
The ideal candidate will have industry experience or experience working in similar industries with transferrable skills (shopfitting, exhibition stands, brand activations, prop making, etc.). As a minimum, a wide range of joinery experience is essential and the successful candidate must be able to adapt to various types of bespoke and other non-standard joinery, working with a wide variety of materials.
The role requires someone who can work in a highly pressurised, time critical environment, and may involve frequently working longer hours, including Saturday or Sunday. Some offsite work may also be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and support a team of joiners, allocating tasks and ensuring smooth workflow.
- Quality control – check and sign off all work ensuring the highest quality standards are met.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and well-organised workshop, including overseeing general upkeep, machinery maintenance, and health & safety procedures.
- Work closely with the management team to manage production priorities and project timelines.
- Remain active on the tools, contributing your own skills and setting a high standard for craftsmanship.
- Work to job specifications, set out and produce cutting lists for the production of various types of bespoke and other non-standard joinery.
Essential
- Skilled Joiner – strong experience in bespoke and non-standard joinery.
- Qualified with City & Guilds, NVQ or similar.
- Ability to read CAD drawings, set out and assemble work.
- Comfortable with joinery machinery and general workshop equipment (ideally with knowledge of CNC machining).
- Leadership experience – previous supervisory or team-leading background in a workshop environment.
- Highly organised – able to juggle multiple jobs, coordinate a team, and manage daily workshop operations.
- Committed to delivering top-quality workmanship across the board, focussing on accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Initiative and decisiveness; with a proactive and energetic work ethic.
Please note that salary will be dependant on skill, qualifications and experience and may exceed the advertised banding.
