We have an exciting opportunity for an individual who would be interested in working as a Housing Support Officer within our Older Persons' Housing Team supporting older adults in their tenancies within sheltered housing.

You will be based in Dewar Court Sheltered Housing unit in Perth but could also be required to travel to work at any of our other sites throughout the Perth and Kinross area when there are staff absences.

You will deliver high quality housing support services to older adults including practical support, assistance, advice and guidance and undertaking routine daily tasks to meet the needs of our tenants and the aims of our service.

You will be responsible for ensuring the health, safety and security of the building too, in order to ensure that tenants and visitors can enjoy a safe, secure and comfortable environment.

You will be managed by the Co-ordinator for Older Persons' Housing Team and will work mostly independently but will be part of a large team of Housing Support Officers and auxiliaries.

You will encourage and promote appropriate tenant participation and involvement in social and physical activities and events in the sheltered housing units.

You will work Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 4.15pm

Skills & Experience Required

You should hold a SCQF Level 6 (SVQ 2) in Social Services and Health Care and should be registered with or will be required to register with Scottish Social Services Council within 3 months of commencing employment. You are also responsible for paying your annual membership fee.

You should have experience of working in a housing/housing support/social care setting.

You should ideally have experience of working with older adults.

We are looking for someone who is very focused on the needs of older adults.

You will be someone who is enthusiastic, innovative and creative.

You should be able to communicate effectively with tenants to build relationships with them and gather relevant information for support planning. You should also communicate effectively with colleagues from internal and external agencies and organisations working in a collaborative way to achieve the best possible outcomes for individuals.

You should have a good understanding of data protection and GDPR legislation and be able to maintain confidentiality, but also understand when it is appropriate/necessary to share information.

You should be a resilient, tenacious individual who can deal with the challenges and hurdles you may encounter and you should have strength of character and be solution-focused to work with individuals to help them achieve their goals and outcomes.

You will have a non-judgemental attitude, be empathetic and sensitive to tenants’ needs. You will understand and have an awareness of the health, wellbeing and individual needs of older people ensuring a person-centred approach to achieve the best outcomes for the people you are supporting.

You should be a highly organised individual and have the ability to prioritise your own workload.

You will be required to use various computer systems and databases to keep factual and accurate records and to produce support plans. As such, you will need to have good digital skills. Good digital skills are required too to enable you to support tenants to become digitally included and help them to make use of technology to help them maintain their independence.

You should have a good awareness of Health and Safety Legislation including lone working, keeping yourself safe, the safety and security of building, infection control and handling and moving.

You must be able to drive and hold a full, clean driving licence as this post requires you to travel to a variety of locations across Perth and Kinross.
