About the Role: Leading by Example Every Day
No two days are the same in this dynamic environment. As a Senior Residential Support Worker in Crediton, you'll be instrumental in creating a safe, homely, and friendly culture where children and young people feel secure and cared for. You'll take on increased responsibility in implementing care plans, managing complex situations, and acting as a mentor to less experienced staff. Your work will directly enable residents to develop socially, emotionally, and behaviourally, fostering their independence and well-being.
Key Responsibilities of a Senior Residential Support Worker:
- Encourage Independence & Development: Empower children and young people to take responsibility for their lives, engage in activities, and develop essential life skills, providing targeted support.
- Maintain a Supportive Environment: Uphold the homely and friendly culture of our residential home, acting as a positive role model and ensuring a nurturing atmosphere.
- Manage Challenging Behaviours: Confidently and sympathetically support children and young people through taxing behaviours, utilising your experience to de-escalate situations and implement effective strategies.
- Safeguarding & Welfare: Act as a key safeguarding link, protecting children and young people's health and welfare. Maintain an up-to-date, in-depth knowledge of individual care plans and guidelines, and contribute to risk assessments.
- Promote Well-being: Provide essential, enhanced support to enhance the independence and overall well-being of residents, addressing their emotional and practical needs.
- Build Relationships & Collaborate: Foster strong working relationships with staff, parents, social workers, and other professionals like psychologists, often taking a lead in communications.
- Mentorship & Guidance: Provide guidance and support to less experienced Support Workers, helping them develop their skills and understanding of best practices.
- Documentation & Reporting: Accurately complete logs, reports, and other necessary documentation, contributing to care planning and reviews.
