Job title: Senior Process Engineer

The Opportunity
You will be an experienced and driven Chartered Chemical Engineer to lead the Process Engineering function within our dynamic manufacturing environment. You will be responsible for the design, implementation, control, and optimisation of industrial processes to enhance safety, efficiency, productivity, and sustainability. This is a critical role that works cross-functionally to drive continuous improvement, support capital projects, and ensure operational excellence across the business.

What you’ll be doing
The responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to:
Process Engineering Leadership
Lead the process engineering function in the design, implementation, control, and optimisation of processes.
Act as the technical authority for process and equipment improvements with a focus on safety, compliance, and productivity.
Lead and participate in process safety studies including HAZOP, LOPA, SIL determination, and risk reviews, ensuring timely and effective close-out of all actions.
Develop and deliver project scopes from concept to operation, defining requirements, deliverables, and success criteria.
Specify process equipment and technically appraise proposals against company standards, industry codes, and regulatory requirements.
Project & Technical Support
Oversee commissioning, validation, and handover of new equipment and processes, ensuring operational readiness and compliance.
Champion a strong process safety culture across the site, mentoring junior engineers in best practice.
Lead and support the installation and modification of equipment, ensuring alignment with production needs and upper-tier COMAH safety obligations.
Documentation & Compliance
Generate, review, and maintain engineering documentation including PFDs, P&IDs, cause & effect matrices, operating procedures, and functional design specifications.
Define and develop User Requirement Specifications (URS) and process design packages aligned to business needs, safety integrity, and regulatory requirements.
Collaborate with Quality to ensure robust quality plans are developed and followed.
Ensure site-wide compliance with internal standards and external regulations including COMAH, REACH, IFRA, FEMA, ATEX, and DSEAR.
Contribute to Safety Reports, COMAH submissions, inspections, and audits, ensuring effective engagement with regulators.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation
Drive continuous improvement (CI) initiatives to improve yield, reduce waste, enhance OEE, and lower operating costs.
Assess, introduce, and implement new technologies relevant to distillation, extraction, and other core processes.
Maintain awareness of industry developments and assess applicability for site-wide adoption.
People Leadership
Lead, develop, and manage the process engineering team, including resource planning, absence monitoring, performance management, and succession planning.
Support the development of a skills matrix to identify training needs and promote technical growth within the team.
Provide coaching and mentoring to encourage professional development, engagement, and high standards of conduct.
Engage with stakeholders, contractors, and regulatory authorities to deliver safe, compliant, and cost-effective engineering solutions.
What we’re looking for

BSc in Chemical Engineering or equivalent relevant academic qualification or experience.
Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with IChemE or equivalent professional body.
Strong working knowledge of chemical manufacturing processes and equipment.
Experience with distillation, extraction, and filtration technologies in a production setting.
Demonstrated experience in leading HAZOPs, FMEA, and other risk assessment processes.
Familiarity with project lifecycle activities, including defining URS, scope, design, execution, and commissioning.
Familiarity with distributed control systems (DCS).
NEBOSH General Certificate or IOSH Managing Safely qualification (preferred).
Proficient in Microsoft Office tools.
